THE INFLUENCE OF MUSIC THERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY - AN EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects thousands of individuals worldwide and various forms of treatment are studied aiming the best development of these children. Music therapy emerges as one of these treatment modalities, because it is a form of expression that arouses interest in children acting in the central nervous system bringing systemic benefits, reducing anxiety, pain and improving their interaction with the physiotherapist. This study refers to a report of clinical experience after physical therapy, developed by students of the final year of Undergraduate Physiotherapy Integrated Colleges Ribeira Valley associated with music therapy, performed in two children with cerebral palsy after 13 sessions. The rhythms and musical classes used as an aid were selected by the physiotherapist and teacher supervisor. It can be observed in this study that music therapy facilitated interaction and participation of children to treatment facilitating neurological rehabilitation.
