Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the population. For the older adult, the negative consequences included an increase in age discrimination and feelings of loneliness and social isolation. In music therapy, the representative entities published guidelines for professionals through informational materials, and remote care is being offered in Brazil on an experimental and temporary basis. The practice in gerontology, in this period, can offer benefits for the physical and mental health of the older adult, however, the limitations and demands of the use of technology must be taken into account. This article aims to offer a current overview and indicate possibilities of the music therapist's practice in remote care for the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the possibilities in remote attendance, the following can be mentioned: the survey of songs of preference; the use of rhythm for dancing and breathing; musical composition; the indirect practice of music therapy, among others. In the future, it is important to evaluate the benefits, but also the negative implications of remote service, such as technology limitations and physical distance. Anyway, it is possible that these learnings are added to the training and practice of music therapy.
