Music therapy interventions are always under a process of
development and actualization. Approaches that are different from those rooted on conventional music therapy methods or models have been named as social and community music therapy. Based on articles published in Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia and in the Community Music Therapy book, this work presents a chart with a critical organization of the conceptions music therapists have about their practices. Their opinions emphasized the presence of challenges, tension, doubts and successes they faced when working with unique conditions in which culture, society and groups were essential issues for their activity.
