MISSION OF THE BRAZILIAN JOURNAL OF MUSIC THERAPY

Brazilian Journal of Music Therapy - BRJMT / Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia, through the divulgation of scientific works, looks for to collaborate in the advances of the research, theory and practice of Music Therapy. Its mission is the diffusion of studies in Music Therapy in order to support the academic/scientific/practical activity in the search for the understanding of Music Therapy with interventions based on music. It is destined, therefore, to the publication of all types of results of reflective professional practice and research, quantitative, qualitative, historical, philosophical, theoretical and musical, considering the discipline, the profession and themes related to research in music therapy. Efforts are for the broad dissemination of reflective practice works, theoretical studies and approaches in the field with spaces for critical investigations and opportunity for dialogues between researchers, educators and clinicians in Music Therapy.

HISTORY OF THE JOURNAL

The history of the Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia began in 1995, with the decision to found the União Brasileira das Associações de Musicoterapia - UBAM and together with this to create an instrument for the deepening of theoretical reflection in Musicotherapy. At that time, the availability of material in the Portuguese language was limited, which motivated the professional class to seek a vehicle for the divulging of Music Therapy and principally a space to share the work developed and to stimulate theoretical production. These proposing movements took place during the VIII Brazilian Symposium of Music Therapy, in São Paulo.

The first two numbers of the Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia - Year I - Number 1 and 2 - 1996 - published the parallel works in the VIII Brazilian Symposium of Musicotherapy. The second number, still, collaborations of articles that were not provided in the already said symposium.

The first general editor of the magazine was the music therapist Marco Antonio Carvalho Santos. This record is important to be made, because in no issue appears the name of this who was, the pioneer editor of the journal.

From the fourth year onwards, in 2001, Revista nº 5 began to have Lia Rejane Mendes Barcellos as General Editor. Although this fact is not written in the front page, it is important to register it and make it public, because it marked a new moment of the journal, a moment of organization and search for quality in the published material. This is verified with the publication, in the last pages, of the Norms for Publication and with the constitution of an Editorial Council, formed by six evaluators. The cover of the journal also gained a new design.

The expansion of the Editorial Board has occurred since the issue of the Journal No. 7 and currently has national and international referees, linked to different institutions. This growing number is due to the enlargement in the qualification of music therapists, no enlargement of articles to Spanish and English language and no volume of works sent for submission.

Lia Rejane Mendes Barcellos remained as General Editor of the Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia until the year 2006, with the publication of the Journal nº 8.

The Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia had an interval of three years without publishing, which was resumed in 2009, with the Journal nº 9, with Laize Guazina as the new editor and an enlarged Editorial Council. The design of the journal was renewed.

In 2010, Noemi Nascimento Ansay took over the work as General Editor of the magazine and remained in the position until the year 2014. From 2015, the function of General Editor was conducted by music therapist Sheila Beggiato until May 2019.

From May 2019 the coordination of the work passed to the music therapist Clara Márcia Piazzetta. The editorial commission outlined a work plan for the internationalisation of the journal. In January 2021 occurs the migration to the OJS platform, in March 2021 the journal receives BRJMT logo, name in English but also keeps the name in Portuguese. The DOI designation for the articles and issues of the journal occurs concomitantly with the migration to the OJS platform.
