The works sent to BRJMT, submitted in a continuous flow, pass first through the Editorial Committee. This stage is of preliminary analysis of the manuscripts, in order to verify the conformity with the editorial line, (for the dissemination of studies in Music Therapy in order to support academic / scientific / practical activity in the search for the understanding of Music Therapy with interventions based on music. It is thus intended for the publication of all types of results of reflective professional practice and research, quantitative, qualitative, historical, philosophical, theoretical and musical, considering the discipline, profession and themes related to research in music therapy) being able to refuse them or forward them, if approved, to the subsequent evaluation process in a double review system blind review by the Journal's Editorial Board. They must deal with themes related to Music Therapy, making explicit relations and contributions to the area. In interdisciplinary works, one of the authors must be a music therapist. For interviews, conversations are considered with author (s), researcher (s), editor (s), and / or clinical music therapists on a relevant and current topic, in written format. The journal will publish only one work per author in each issue. Preprint proposals will follow the same evaluation processes. American Psychological Association (APA) style bibliographic reference standards will be accepted. The content of published articles is the responsibility of the authors.
2. Types of work
Submitted works must fall into one of the categories:
● Theoretical Studies/Essays: analysis of themes and issues reasoned and argued theoretically, leading to theoretical and/or practical contributions to the area. The articles should have the following structure: introduction, development and final considerations. Papers must be between 12 and 20 pages including references
● Articles Based on Research (Master’s dissertations and Doctoral theses carried out by professor researcher and independent researcher): investigations based on empirical data, using the research methodology, in which the introduction, methodology, results, discussion and conclusion should be detailed and also the academic affiliation and financing entity (if any). In the case of research involving human subjects, the author(s) is (are) required to provide the registration number in the article, recorded in the official institution that regulates / controls the human research (Research Ethics Committee). Papers must be between 12 and 20 pages including references.
● Reviews: small critical summary of a work published in the press. It should have a maximum of 6 pages and up to two authors. The review must be of works published in the year of publication of the magazine or up to two previous years. The theme of the book needs to be related to Music Therapy.
● Interviews: We understand an interview as a conversation between two or more people, to get to know their life and professional experiences, seeking to understand and analyze through a dialogue, strengths and / or weaknesses on a given subject. They can be interviews with authors, researcher (s), editor (s), and / or relevant clinical music therapists directly or indirectly with music therapy, as well as the theme addressed. In the abstract / resumen/ resumo, you should present a brief curriculum vitae of the person interviewed, the context of how the interview was conducted, its purpose, and results achieved. It should be between 8 and 15 pages long.
● Report of reflective professional experience in music therapy: The structure of the manuscript should have four divisions: Introduction - needs to consider a theoretical background. The introduction needs to be clear and in line with the target experience. It is also essential to be clear about the pertinence of the problem formulated, the origin of the experience and its goals. The authors need to highlight the considerations, the knowledge and the utilization of other publications on the same type of problem or with similar purposes. Development - a fundamental part of the text must be concisely and clearly; containing an orderly and detailed exposition of the subject considering the methodology that should describe where, when and how the experience occurred, the context and the procedures used. Results and discussions - the experience should be reported, contextualizing it with the findings in the literature on the topic; show analysis of the results obtained, if applicable. The proposed procedure must be appropriate to the intervention according to the problem and the objectives pursued by it. The relevance and adequacy of the methods used in presenting the data will also be significant. Illustrative resources of figures or tables (maximum two) can be used, accompanied by analysis indicating their relevance, advantages and possible limitations. Conclusion or final considerations - The author's interpretation of the results must be adequate and consistent with what was initially proposed (considering what has been established in the goals and the summary of the results). Analysis and discussion of the data obtained must be highlighted. One of the most critical points concerns the interest and relevance of the conclusions and results for professional practice, and how they can be applied to other similar situations in Music Therapy. It must contain a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 pages, including bibliographic references and notes. Direct and indirect citations (references) in the text must follow the rules of the American Psychological Association (APA) style.
●Translated material: Material written by a music therapist and published (or not) in a language other than Portuguese will be accepted with due authorization from the journal of origin and must be submitted by the author himself and with the consent of the journal of first publication. Material written by foreign music therapists but translated by Brazilian music therapists will also be accepted. They must include the justification for submission to the journal with or without the author's consent, in the case of a deceased author. Articles -results of research and theoretical essays- and lectures are considered material. A footnote should include a citation informing that it is a version (in Portuguese) of an article already published in another journal, and the original reference should be indicated.
● Methodological Articles - Submissions in this category must present innovative methodological approaches or discussions of quantitative and/or analytical data approaches, with proper theoretical grounding. The works may refer to methods of planning, intervention, development of protocols, or assessment instruments in Music Therapy. They should be between 12 and 20 pages long.
