Abstract

The Armed Forces of Brazil are essential in the implementation of national security and are constituted by the Navy, the Army and the Air Force. This article aims to present a survey on the profile and performance of music therapists in the Brazilian Navy. To this end, it developed a qualitative research in which four music therapists who work or have worked in this military context were interviewed. After analysis, data were organized into four categories: employment relationship; competences and skills of the music therapist; areas of expertise and teamwork; and objectives of music therapy. The results show that two music therapists are already activated and three are activated in the Brazilian Navy with military ties in the areas of mental health, social assistance and rehabilitation, in multidisciplinary teams. According to the interviews, the main objective of the music therapist in the Brazilian Navy is to promote health and the big challenge is to use the service as health professionals in line with military activities. In view of what was presented, highlight it or the commitment of music therapists to increase the number of professionals in this area, concomitantly with the desire to recognize the relevance of music therapy in this context.
