Abstract

This article describes the improvisation work done with adult blind patients in the institution APAE - Ouro Preto, in 2008. The technique of improvisation in music therapy is widely used by Brazilian music therapists. That's because improvisation is an active technique, which facilitates expression of the patient who doesn’t know music, or even those who know. The technique of improvisation was one of the experiments used during music therapy sessions with blind adult patients. Improvisation is an experiment in which the patient uses this technique to make music by singing, playing, creating a melody, adding a sound fragment. This musical experience brings the patient's their internalized feelings, often difficult to be expressed verbally and frees it from its physical and emotional conditions to experience a fantasy of freedom and autonomy.
