Music therapy in mental health: perspectives for ananti-asylum practice

Abstract

From the broad and complex movement of reflections and transformations generated by the Psychiatric Reform, the mental healthcare model was transformed to wards the objective of removing users from asylums and inserting them into society. Music therapy can contribute significantly to the development of skills for users assisted in mental health institutions in the exercise of citizenship. From the reflection on the clinical practice carried out in a reference center in mental health, a relationship between the therapeutic potentials in mental health demonstrated from na experience reportaligned with the models of social/Community and Plurimodal Music Therapy is proposed. Emerging traces of the described sessions that took place between 2018 and 2020 were established for a broad reading of the clinical processes developed in the music therapy setting in ananti-asylum context.
