Professional and labor profile of Spanish Music Therapists: a descriptive study

Abstract

The professionalization of music therapy in Spain is a topic of interest which requires to study and reflect on the current situation and degree of employability it has on different fields. The objective of this research was to gather information about the professional status of therapists in Spain with reference to demographic, educational, labor and professional aspects, updating existing ones. It is based on a survey design through the completion of the Professional Status Survey of Music Therapy in Spain, designed "ad hoc" by the authors. The analysis of collected data allowed to develop a descriptive report on the professional status of music therapy. This information serves as a starting point for a critical reflection on professional and working status from which to outline strategies to advance in regulating the practice of the profession of music therapists in Spain.
