Abstract

This is a literature review that aims to expand knowledge about the use of music therapy on cognitive rehabilitation in patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD). We used the databases PubMed, Scopus and Scielo articles published between January 2002 and August 2012 in Portuguese, English and Spanish and their abstracts available and words in the title song or music therapy and DA related to some aspect cognition. We found 136 articles. The four studies included used the music passively to assess the influence on verbal fluency, memory, musical memory and autobiographical memory in patients with AD. The smallnumber of articles included in this review is consistent with the literature, although it is a topic of great relevance. It is hoped that further investigations are carried seeking results from the intervention with music therapy to support clinical practice.
