The MusicTherapy research in Brazilian social scene

Abstract

The research in health and social area are advanced, as a field of health, it is important that research in Music Therapy can meet the demand of existing complexity. This new demand proposes autonomy of groups and a reinvention of reality that is no longer limited to the traditional design assistance. This may mean that music therapists could also be seen as cultural workers, rethinking the role of Music Therapy and getting closer to the community. From a quick analysis of research in Music Therapy theory establishment performed for preparation of the monograph at the Community Health Specialization Course at the Institute of Developmental Psychology at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, emerged the needs to think about the course of Music Therapy research in Brazil. The aim of this study was, through a research in six national academic databases, to give an overview of music therapy research on the social scene. In total, were analyzed 108 abstracts. The data showed an increase in the number of publications in that area, with the shift from a quantitative to a qualitative bias. It is noteworthy that these publications do not represent the diversity of practice areas of Music Therapy.
