Abstract

This article presents some reflections about the Music Therapy undergraduate students` political movement towards the challenges in the profession. It emphasizes the importance of Student Advocacy, Academic Union and Student’s Activities Centers in cultural, educational, social and political environments as well as their possible areas of practice. The study takes as an example, the history of the Centro Acadêmico de Musicoterapia (Music Therapy Academic Union) - Rio de Janeiro, at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música (Brazilian School of Music) - Centro Universitário. This description is based upon the literature related to accreditation, professional background, updating data, professional achievements and mobilization in the Music Therapy field. It is hoped that these reflections encourage the creation of other advocacy endeavors, such as Music Therapy students´ centers and representative organizations among the states and all over the country, as well as reinforce the strengthening and expansion of student’s movements and consequently, the music therapist’s domain as a whole.
