This article addresses the relevance of Ecological Music Therapy in engaging with social soundscapes of collectives undergoing multiple forms of vulnerability. These soundscapes are central to past and current struggles for resistance and emancipation. An exploratory approach to the musical expressions of Jongo da Serrinha, a collective in the Northern part of the city of Rio de Janeiro, sets the stage for a preliminary discussion of the sonorities which draw upon the heritage of an ancestral wisdom emerging from the struggles against slavery and for emancipation from enduring forms of discrimination and exclusion.
