A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW ON INTERVENTIONS WITH OLDER ADULTS IN THE MUSIC THERAPY AREA

Abstract
The objective of the present study was to search in the available literature studies on the intervention of music therapy with older adults. Methodological procedures: The identification of articles for this systematic literature review was done by searching electronic databases and specialized journals of the area: PsycINFO, BVS, Capes, Century, Eric, Lilacs, Pubmed/Medline, Scielo, Brazilian Journal of Music Therapy and Voices. The following descriptors were used: Music Therapy, Intervention, Quality of Life and Older Adults in the English and Portuguese languages. The following inclusion criteria were considered: original articles published in peer-reviewed journals and studies published as of January 2001 until december 2016. Results and Discussion: There were 1,144 references related to the topic, of which 25 articles met the inclusion criteria of the review . The articles demonstrate positive results in many aspects, such as: a global increase in the quality of life, humanization, sensitivity, spirituality, motivation, intrapersonal and interpersonal communication and expression, social relations, cognitive functions, reductions in stress, depressive disorders, agitation and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Conclusion: The benefits of interventions with music therapy in several aspects are unanimous in these studies, and they can be used as resource low cost and high adherence resource with older adults with or without comorbidities.
