Abstract

This article aims to analyze the journey of the Revista Brasileira de Musicoterapia, the journal of the "União Brasileira de Associações de Musicoterapia” – UBAM, through 149 of a total of 154 articles published from 1996 until 2016. These articles are related to clinical practice, theory, training, supervision, professional issues, bioethics, and research in any of these areas, as well as literature reviews and articles on events held as symposiums and conferences. From a "historical review", in a narrative way, the goal is evaluate the knowledge generation and understand the possible contributions of this publication to the development of music therapy in the country through the subjects presented, the clinical practice areas addressed, the theoretical foundation of this practice, the creation of new theoretical concepts, new approaches and music therapy methods, the use of the available literature, both Brazilian and foreign, the region from where the authors who sign these articles are from, and the inclusion of “music therapy” as a keyword. Non authorial productions were excluded: the five interviews with international professionals, although they may provide important information for music therapists. No evaluation tools were used due to the fact that the quality of the articles is not the center of the study. From the analysis of the various aspects selected is presented a discussion and final comments showing the importance of the set of articles examined and the contribution of them to the development of Brazilian Music Therapy.
