Commemorative cover marking the 30th anniversary of BRJMT, the UBAM Music Therapy Journal.

Dear readers, authors, and contributors to the Brazilian Journal of Music Therapy, UBAM’s Journal of Music Therapy.

This year, the journal is celebrating 30 years of publishing articles on music therapy in Brazil and abroad. To mark this occasion, we are unveiling a commemorative cover that, in addition to the commemorative seal, features general changes to its layout. Here is a description of the changes:

In revamping the cover layout, we removed the musical notes and sought to highlight the music therapy relationship: music therapist, patient(s), and sound/music/instrument, as well as diversity.

The percussion instrument was chosen to convey a “Brazilian spirit” through the distinctive rhythms of Brazilian music. And since we aim for the journal to have an international reach, this theme visually positions BRJMT in a more autonomous and independent manner.
The circle (or instrument) symbolizes the alliance between patient(s) (represented by different shapes and colors in their hands) and the therapist, working together to (co)produce music therapy and its effects—both for the therapist, whose sensitivity helps guide the session, and for the patient(s), who benefit from music therapy, represented by the watercolor in the center (a semiotic translation of sound into color) and waves spreading out to both sides (the sides of the instrument, which signify movement). Each issue will feature a change in the hands on the tambourine.
