Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and understand the different phases of a personal experience of being an international Temple University PhD student going through the process of adaptation and how music was used in order to offer support and provide possibilities for insights. The study was designed as a heuristic approach combined with Arts-based research. Data was collected through multiple sources and was conducted through a self-inquiry process. Also, the study aimed to make reflections about similar adaptive process that a music therapy client can experience in the beginning of his/her therapy. In addition, there is a reflection about the possible adaptive process therapists may go through in the beginning of a new job, with new clients (with new needs) with a new team, in a new place.
