MUSIC AND MUSIC THERAPY WITH FAMILIES: A SYSTEMATIC LITTERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

This systematic review aimed to investigate the use of musical activities within health professionals and music therapy intervention with families. The databases were the Virtual Health Library and SciELO using the descriptors "music and family" and "music therapy and family" and the respective translations for Spanish and Portuguese. Articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese from 2010 to 2014 were included. The research follow four steps: 1) searching articles in the databases, 2) selecting articles by titles and abstracts; 3) reading the full selected articles, and 4) book reporting the selected articles. The search resulted in 1,019 items. After the four steps, 16 articles remained for analysis. The systematic review allowed an overview on the state of the art of using music and music therapy with families. The analyzed studies showed a promising and validate potential of the music as a therapeutic resource with families.
