Abstract

This work presents a literature review and a theoretical proposal on music therapy group practices. The review showed the context of the English, Portuguese and Spanish manuscripts published on the topic along the last ten years. A total of 240 abstracts were read and organized in charts according to the characteristics of the texts, the participants and the area of knowledge of the journals. Following both the organization of the texts in a panel and the commentaries on the publications, a theoretical articulation based on authors as Even Ruud, Mercedes Pavlicevic, Milton Santos e Thomas Turino was woven. The theoretical construction highlighted seven marks of the group music therapy space: the shared and participative musical action; the music therapy group space as a locus where the participants can collectivity expresses themselves although individuality is also considered; the presence of the music therapist; the recognition of the participants' time and individuality; the specific nature of the music that permeates the group space; the sensitive cognition stimulation; the foundation of the group process on music therapy techniques and procedures.
