The development of socioemotional skills in the educational path is essential for children and adolescents to learn how to manage emotions and relate to each other. This study aimed to investigate what has been produced about music therapy and the socioemotional development of adolescents with and without neurodivergences and disabilities. A systematic qualitative review was carried out in three important journals in the area of music therapy: Brazilian Journal of Music Therapy; Journal of Music Therapy; and Nordic Journal of Music Therapy. The selected studies demonstrated positive results of music therapy intervention, mainly in the school environment, in the skills of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. It was possible to gather a wide scope of approaches, techniques and assessment tools applicable in the use of music therapy in the development of socioemotional skills and reflect on the need for a dynamic and systemic process that embraces the school community in future research and music therapy practices.
